The Minnesota Wild, in partnership with Minnesota Hockey and the Minnesota Whitecaps, hosted its first ever Girls Hockey Weekend at Xcel Energy Center on December 16-18.

The full weekend of events kicked off on Friday with three-time Olympic medalist and current Hamline coach Natalie Darwitz participating in a Wild team practice. In doing so, Darwitz the first woman to skate with the Wild and she feels that type of support from our local NHL club will continue to push girls’ and women’s hockey to even higher levels in Minnesota.

On Saturday, the Minnesota Wild extended its season long winning streak with a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. After the game, about 80 young girls had the opportunity to participate in clinic sessions on the ice at Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota Hockey and USA Hockey, as well as players from the Minnesota Whitecaps, led groups of 8U and 10U girls through an on-ice session and dry land activities. Meanwhile, the participants’ family members were able to watch the U.S. Women’s National team face off against Canada on the arena’s video board.

Girls Hockey Weekend concluded on Sunday with clinics for players age 12 & Under and 19 & over. Each of the teams were also treated to a post-clinic pizza party.
