Saturday, November 12th is Try Hockey For Free Day.

For the sixth consecutive year, Minnesota Hockey will be participating in USA Hockey’s Try Hockey For Free Day with 57 events scheduled at rinks around the state on Saturday, November 12. The events are designed to welcome boys and girls, ages 4 to 9, to come to a local rink and try youth hockey free of charge.

Last November 7, 1,048 participants were reported at locations across the state. As a result of the increase in Try Hockey for Free events and other Grow the Game initiatives, Minnesota Hockey saw the highest total of 8 & Under players ever at 17,656, shattering the previous record of 16,936.

“The growth of hockey in the United States is on a great path,” said Pat Kelleher, assistant executive director of development for USA Hockey. “Thanks to the support of the NHL and the outstanding work of local volunteers, thousands of families will enjoy their first youth hockey experience during Try Hockey For Free events on Saturday.”

Limited equipment will be provided for children attending Try Hockey For Free Day and no experience is required to participate. For a complete map and listing of Minnesota host locations or to register for a specific location, go to http://www.minnesotahockey.org/tryhockeyforfree.

USA Hockey's Try Hockey For Free Day, with the support of the National Hockey League and NHL member clubs, among others, has introduced more than 100,000 children to the sport across the nation, including a record 28,446 in 2013-14.
