Minnesota Hockey is excited to announce the opening of nominations for the 2016-17 Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month award. Entering its sixth season, the Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month award gives special recognition to the outstanding volunteers we have in associations across Minnesota.

Every year volunteers selflessly dedicate their time and energy to ensure the success of our community-based youth hockey associations. They truly are the unsung heroes of hockey in Minnesota.

With the support of Total Hockey, this award acknowledges five volunteers over the course of the season. Nominations are accepted from all types of volunteer positions in our youth hockey associations. Last year’s winners included a registrar, a board president, a recruiting chairperson, an equipment manager and a past president who has spearheaded the association’s effort to get a new ice sheet.

"Dedicated volunteers do what they do because they love the game,” said Katy Benoit, USA Hockey and Minnesota Hockey Liaison for Total Hockey. “Whether they are parents, coaches, lifelong players, or fans - they are the ones who deserve thanks and recognition for keeping hockey thriving in our communities.”

To be considered for the award, nominees must play an active role in their community based association. Top candidates help create a safe and fun environment for youth hockey players and are good role models for parents, players and potential volunteers.
