The CCM High Performance Youth Tier 1 16U League announced today it will send teams to participate in three tournaments affiliated with the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL). Each of the events will take place at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, MN this fall.

The first tournament of the series will be the 14th annual NAHL Showcase on September 22-25, 2016. Each season the NAHL kicks off its season with this showcase tournament which features all of its NAHL teams competing in one location. The NAHL Showcase also serves as the first event of the season for the NAPHL. This year the NAPHL will host 18 teams at the Midget Major (18U) level and 18 Midget Minor (16U) teams.

Minnesota will send to teams to participate in four games as a part of the NAHL Showcase. Metro Southeast will compete at the 16U level and Metro North 18U will take part in the Midget Major tournament.

On October 21-24, 2016, the NAPHL returns to Schwan Super Rink for its annual NAPHL Showcase event. Once again, two teams from Minnesota will participate including Metro Northeast 16U and South 18U. Each of the teams will compete in five games against the top teams of the NAPHL.

The NAHL will also revisit Blaine, MN as it will host its second annual Future Prospects Tournament at the Schwan Super Rink on the same weekend as the NAPHL Showcase. This year’s Future Prospects Tournament will feature Tier 1 teams from across the country at the 16U and 18U levels. Metro Northwest 16U, West 16U, Central 16U and Northeast 18U will represent Minnesota and the Youth Tier 1 16U League in four games each.

All of the games at the Future Prospects Tournament will be broadcast live online by FASTHockey, the official broadcast provider of the NAHL. The NAHL has also guaranteed a scouting presence by NAHL teams and its NAHL Central Scouting team at the event.

“The league is pleased to provide our players with these additional opportunities,” said Charlie Graves, Program Director for the Youth Tier 1 16U League.  “Not only do the events enhance our normal competitive schedule, but they allow our players the opportunity to compete against other excellent programs from around the nation while remaining at home and competing in their high school program after the fall season. These events will be highly scouted by college and junior programs.”

The CCM High Performance Youth Tier 1 16U League previously announced it will send two teams to the USHL Fall Classic 2016 Youth Tournament on September 9-11 in Omaha, NE.

The CCM High Performance Youth Tier 1 16U League is an extension of the Minnesota Elite Prep Development League (MEPDL).  The MEPDL was started eight seasons ago in cooperation between Minnesota Hockey and Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association to provide the best underclassmen in Minnesota an opportunity to develop their skills while competing against each other. This year the league will consist of six Youth Tier 1 16U (2000 birth year) teams and four 18U (non-Tier 1) teams, formed geographically by modified high school Section boundaries.
