CCM HP Boys 15: Day 2

District 6 and 15-

Starting off Day 2 of the CCM HP Boys 15 tournament were District 6 and District 15.  District 6 began the scoring just five minutes into the game with a goal from Nicholas Vega.  District 6 picked up another goal on a rebound by Griffin Streeter.  District 15 would pull within one when a bad bounce of the end board left Nick Hastings open in front of the net for a goal.  That would be the end of the scoring for District 15 however, as they were unable to match the speed of District 6.  Grant Silianoff and Griffin Streeter would both pick up hat tricks in the game.  Other scoring for District 6 included Clay Hanus and Nicholas Vega each scoring 2 while Jake Boltmann and Tyler Rollwagen each netted a goal apiece.  The final score would be 12-1 in favor of District 6.

District 3 and 16-

The second game of day 2 play was a matchup between District 3 and District 16.  District 3 would get the lone goal in the first period from Tyler Kostelecky, assisted by Trevor Kukkonen and Jacob Hale.  District 3 then put the pressure on with three goals early in the second period.  Kostelecky would pick up his second of the day when Jacob Hale made a drop pass that Trevor Kukkonen rung off the goal post leaving an easy rebound for Kostelecky.  Joseph Tomczik scored twenty-five seconds later on a rebound that he put of the goaltender’s back.  Assists went to Joel Matthews and Tanner Skanson.  Another rebound goal scored by Garrett Pinoniemi with assists from Matthews and Tomczik came just twenty-two seconds later.  Jarrett Nelson would put District 16 on the board making it 4-1, with assists going to Aaron Huglen and Carson Schlenk.  An exciting last minute of the game saw two goals and a post hit.  District 16 would come within two on a Reece Chorney goal.  With just twenty- two seconds left, Garrett Pinoniemi would get his second of the game and seal the victory for District 3 5-2.

District 12 and 2-

District 12 and District 2 faced off in the third game of the day.  Matthew Gleason got the scoring started with a short-handed goal ten minutes into the game.  That was followed by a goal from Ryan O’Neill, his first of three, to put District 2 up 2-0.  District 12 would strike back when Caleb Bialke poked the puck past a defenseman and scored on a breakaway making it 2-1.  District 2 would get the last two tallies of the period with goals from O’Neill and Niklas Norman.  Norman and Charlie Strobel would go on to each have hat tricks as well.  Additional scoring for District 2 would come from Ben Stucker, Noah Skillings, and Chase Bill who each had a goal.  District 12 would notch one more goal in the second period scored by Tylen Jerkovich, but would end up losing the game 13-2. 

District 10 and 8-

District 10 would strike first with a breakaway goal from Mitch Maass with a stretch pass from Justin Lawry due to a bad change by District 8.  The physicality of District 8 would keep District 10 at bay for a while, but Cameron Shoberg was able to make it 2-0 with a dish from Nick Neilson.  District 8 put on the pressure for the last five minutes of the period hitting a post, but were unable to get on the board.  The second period was back and forth with both teams seeing several chances to tally, but the score would hold strong and end at 2-0 in favor of District 10.

District 4 and 5-

District 5 and District 4 would do battle in the fifth game of day 2 for the Boys CCM HP 15s. Jacob Braccini popped the water bottle for District 5 to begin the scoring.  A tic-tac-toe passing play by Sean Davidson and Mack Motzko would lead to Tyler Braccini making it 2-0.  District 4 would answer back with a goal from Drew Helleson.  They would trade off goals from there as Luc Laylin made it 3-1 for District 5.  District 4’s Vincent Vongsy would get them back within one with a pass from Nathan Bifolk on the power play.  With exactly a minute left in the first period, Jacob Braccini would set up Brandt Pedersen to put District 5 back up by 2 4-2.  Jackson LaCombe of District 4 would get the first goal in the second period with an assist to Andrew Kittelson, but that would be the only one as they were outscored 7-1 in that period.  Laylin and Jacob Braccini would each finish with four goals while Garrett Kothrade and Tyler Braccini would each add a goal in the second for a final score of 11-3 in favor of District 5.

District 11 and 9-

The final matchup of day 2 for the CCM HP Boys 15 was a battle from the start between District 11 and District 9.  District 9 would strike first as Parker Steindl fed Cullen Vinar just 3:30 into the game.  Logan Anderson would answer back for District 11 with Brady Baker and Ethan Hietala picking up assists.  Breaking the 1-1 tie for District 9 was Sam Schulz on passes from Cole Wentzel and Joseph Deyak.  District 11 would again tie it up on a Samuel High shot from the point that was tipped by Aaron Moore on the way for a power play goal.  The first period would end that way in a 2-2 tie.  A big save on a breakaway early in the second period would give District 11 the momentum they needed.  Samuel High would take a drop pass from Jacob Huhta and beat the District 9 goaltender high blocker to put them up 3-2.  Adding on to that lead would be Samuel Olson with another power play goal set up by Aaron Moore and Carter Sullivan.  Just to be sure, District 11’s Brady Baker would bury the last goal of the game to make the final 5-2.  Benjamin Siljendahl and Jonathan Jones would pick up the helpers on that goal.
