The Gear Up Minnesota! equipment grant program is currently accepting applications for the 2015-2016 season. Now in its sixth season, Gear Up Minnesota! is the leading hockey equipment grant program in the country and has been used by associations across the state to attract new players and make hockey more accessible.

Over the past five years, Gear Up Minnesota! has provided 111 unique associations with sets of starter hockey equipment, with a total worth over $450,000. Each starter set of equipment provides nearly everything new players need to play hockey including a hockey bag, helmet, breezers, gloves, elbow and shin pads. In addition,Gear Up Minnesota! offers starter sets of goalie equipment that enable associations to encourage more kids to try playing goalie.

“No other market in which we operate has a program as robust as Gear Up Minnesota,” said John Luetkemeyer, Total Hockey’s Director of Player Development. “We really believe we have a wonderfully unique sport, and it’s great for kids so the opportunity to hand out equipment, to families and associations, to grow the game is an opportunity we can’t pass up.”

While Minnesota already leads the country with over 17,000 players ages 8 & Under, there are many kids who don’t play our great game. It takes planning, creativity, and hard working volunteers for associations to be effective in growing the game of hockey. Whether it is a novel concept that has never been done before or a program that worked really well at another association, Minnesota Hockey wants to support your efforts.

A special thank you to the Minnesota Wild Foundation, Total Hockey, Domino's, Subway and our other partners for making Gear Up Minnesota! a success.
