Conference Set to Provide Development and Networking Opportunities to Key Volunteers

St. Paul, MN – January 26, 2016 – Minnesota Hockey announced today it will offer an Association Leader Excellence Conference to provide hockey leaders in Minnesota with opportunities for learning best practices and networking. The conference will be held following the conclusion of the current season on Saturday, May 7th at the Marriott Minneapolis West in St. Louis Park, MN.

The plan for the Association Leader Excellence Conference was approved unanimously at Minnesota Hockey’s winter Board of Directors meeting this past weekend. Board members described the program as the right thing to do for its members and portrayed excitement around the opportunity to continue to expand the support of hockey in each community.

"The conference provides a tremendous opportunity for our association leaders to learn how best to lead and manage their local association," said Dave Margenau, Minnesota Hockey President.  "For years, we have provided education for our coaches and parents, and this conference is an effort to provide education for association leaders.  In addition to the numerous conference sessions, the conference will allow attendees to network with other association leaders and learn from each other.”

In an effort to present association and district leaders with the knowledge to deliver best-in-class youth hockey programs, the conference will feature such topics as the legal aspects of operating youth athletic associations, tournament operations, marketing, fund raising, membership development, player development and more. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with leaders from other youth associations and share best practices.

“It’s a testament to the professionalism of our association’s volunteers that Minnesota is a leader across the country in providing youth hockey programs,” said Glen Andresen, Minnesota Hockey Executive Director. “But the reality is every season these volunteers face complex challenges running major non-profit organizations on top of their day jobs, family life and their own kids’ hockey experience. We feel it’s critical to support them in every way we can, and this program will be a fantastic resource for them.”

Minnesota Hockey will be contacting associations with additional information on topics, speakers, registration and lodging in the coming weeks.

Minnesota Hockey, a USA Hockey affiliate, is the governing body of youth hockey in Minnesota. With over 67,000 registered players and coaches, it is the largest state governing body for hockey in the United States. Minnesota Hockey has surpassed 17,000 8 & Under players for the first time ever during the current season and will set a record for new players.
