The National Hockey League Central Scouting’s Midterm Rankings were announced today, and the rankings, which provide a preview of players expected to be taken in the 2016 NHL Draft, featured 14 Minnesota natives.

Edina’s Kieffer Bellows was the highest-ranked Minnesotan, landing at No. 12 among North American Skaters.  Blaine’s Riley Tufte (17th) and Mitchell Mattson from Grand Rapids (49th) were also listed in the top 50.

Other ranked skaters included: Ryan Lindgren (Minneapolis, 51st), Joey Anderson (Roseville, 52nd), Max Zimmer (Medina, 66th), Michael Graham (Eden Prairie, 85th), Scott Perunovich (Hibbing, 109th), Rem Pitlick (Plymouth, 141st), Tyler Jette (Farmington, 168th), Sam Rossini (Inver Grove Heights, 175th), Dylan Malmquist (Edina, 195th), Wyatt Aamodt (Hermantown, 210th).

Minneapolis native Peter Thome was also included in the rankings. Thome was rated 19th on the list of North American goaltenders.

Minnesota was far from the only U.S. state to be featured in the 2016 midterm rankings though, as American born players topped both the North American and International rankings. St. Louis, Missouri native Matthew Tkachuk, son of former NHL star Keith Tkachuk, was the No. 1 ranked North American skater, and Auston Matthews of Scottdale, Arizona, who is currently skating in Switzerland, topped the list of International skaters.

River Falls native and St. Thomas Academy forward Billy Jerry was rated 188th for North American skaters. Jerry was one of seven current Minnesota boys high school hockey players to be included in the rankings. Tufte, Mattson and Graham were the only high school players in the country to be rated in the Top 90 players.
