Donations will be accepted Monday, Aug. 31st through Monday, Sept. 28th. The distribution will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3rd.

The Let’s Play Hockey used equipment drive is set to begin on Monday, August 31st at locations around the metro area.  This annual event has provided more than 16,000 pieces of equipment to approximately 3,000 hockey families from across the state over the past six years.

Each season many families enter the hockey season in need of certain pieces of equipment while other players are holding onto quality pieces of equipment that they have outgrown.  Goalie equipment and hockey sticks typically have the greatest need. The Let’s Play Hockey equipment drive collects the pieces that are no longer being used and redistributes them to people who will use them with the help of Minnesota Hockey, Minnesota Wild and Berger Transfer.

In past seasons, families have traveled from towns as far away as Grand Forks, Duluth, Windom and more to have the opportunity to pick up free equipment, which enables them to start hockey or stay involved with this great game.

This year the equipment drive begins Monday, August 31st as Berger Transfer will place drop off boxes at select arenas and hockey shops throughout the Twin Cities.   Families will have until Monday, September 28th to drop of their used equipment.  Then, the gear will be sorted and moved to the Xcel Energy Center where it will be distributed to families on Saturday, Oct. 3rd from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Sponsors and partners for the program, in alphabetical order, include: Berger Transfer, FOX Sports North, Herb Brooks Foundation, Let’s Play Hockey, Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Association, Minnesota Hockey, Minnesota Ice Arena Managers Association, Minnesota Wild, One Ten Cycles, Swannys, Total Hockey, Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League, Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and Westwood Sports.

Drop-off locations this year include: Apple Valley Sports Arena, Bielenberg Sports Arena (Woodbury), Bloomington Ice Garden, Braemar Arena (Edina), Burnsville Ice Center, Delano Sports Arena, Eagan Civic Arena, Hastings Civic Arena, Lakeville Ames Arena, Maple Grove Community Center, Minnetonka Ice Arena, New Hope Ice Arena, Plymouth Ice Center, Polar Arena (North St. Paul), Rogers Activity Center, Rosemount Community Center, Schwan Super Rink (Blaine), St. Croix Valley Recreation Center (Stillwater), St. Louis Park Recreation Center, Tartan Arena (Oakdale), Waconia Ice Arena and White Bear Lake Sports Center. Total Hockey in Burnsville, Edina, Maplewood and Minnetonka, One Ten Cycles in Mendota Heights and Westwood Sports in Apple Valley are also drop-off locations.
