App features hockey-inspired workouts to help improve agility, strength and endurance

The Minnesota Wild and TRIA Orthopaedic Center have partnered to launch a new Minnesota Wild fitness app powered by PEAR Sports. The hockey-inspired workouts in the interactive smart training app are led by Minnesota Wild Strength and Conditioning Coach Kirk Olson. The program will give gym aficionados the exercises and routines used by the Minnesota Wild. Additionally, doctors from TRIA provide tips throughout the workouts on hydration, stretching, and injury prevention.

With more than 18 years of training athletes, Olson provides a strong focus around strength, endurance and agility, to benefit anyone who seeks to become a better athlete. The exercises provide the ultimate challenge to all fitness enthusiasts who seek a high-intensity session. As the team's official doctors, TRIA will complement the exercise by providing ways to prevent damage or pain, and recover from existing injury.

"Combining speed, strength, quickness, and toughness, hockey players are some of the most well-rounded athletes. As a hockey fan as well, I'm excited that through PEAR, we can offer great hockey training to virtually anyone with a smartphone," says Olson. "TRIA, PEAR Sports and I will provide you with the way, it's your job to bring the will to get started on your journey to become a better you."

"TRIA experts work with all types of athletes daily ranging from youth to seniors, including recreational, amateur and professional athletes. We understand the risks when people of all ages and ability levels don't train properly," says Amy Hamilton, Sports Medicine Program Manager, TRIA Orthopaedic Center. "We want to provide the best support in injury prevention and performance enhancement for the training programs available. Through PEAR Sports, we can ensure not only effective workouts, but safe ones, too."

The workouts are filmed inside the Wild locker room and training area, offering hockey enthusiasts an exclusive look into where professionals train. The app will launch five different workouts, with more to come in the future, which will fall into one of the three programs:

  • Strength - Through the PEAR program, Olson will show the trainees how to build muscle in order to improve explosiveness, but also help with injury prevention, balance, etc.
  • Cardio - By simulating how hockey players make quick shifts on the ice, Olson will raise endurance and help with recovery time.
  • Speed and Agility - These drills will be equal parts mental and physical. From sprints to speed ladder drills, these will improve a player's quickness, fast-twitch muscles, as well as increase coordination and body control.

The Minnesota Wild Fitness Program powered by PEAR Sports, can be found within the Minnesota Wild app or by downloading the all-new Minnesota Wild Fitness app from the iTunes Store. For more information, visit http://www.wild.com/workouts.
