As a part of Hockey Weekend Across America, 35 youth hockey associations in Minnesota hosted Try Hockey For Free Day on Saturday, February 21st. The Try Hockey For Free events, which target kids age four to nine, provided the opportunity for 672 children in Minnesota to try hockey.

The first time hockey players were able to try on hockey equipment and take the ice at no cost. Local volunteers helped with the equipment, provided on-ice instruction and offered families more information on the sport of hockey.

Nationwide, more than 10,200 kids participated in one of the more than 300 events across 47 states. The turnout set a new record for a February Try Hockey For Free day, surpassing the record set in 2013 by more than 4,000 kids. Minnesota Hockey also set new records for number of events and participants, more than tripling the previous records, which were established in 2013.

USA Hockey hosts two national Try Hockey For Free Days each season. The events play a key role in introducing kids across the country to the great game of hockey.
