Few things beat a beauty of a goal. As fans and players we love watching the impossible shot light the lamp. Whether it’s a give-and-go, five-hole backhand, or a toe-drag top-shelfer, we always applaud the highlight-reel goal – especially if it comes from “one of us.”
Here are our top 10 genos scored by State of Hockey natives this season:
.) Ryan McDonagh Wrister: The New York Rangers captain makes that wrist shot look easy. McDonagh pump-fakes an opposing forward at the point, scoots around him and rifles a wrist shot from the faceoff circle to even the score.
.) Hannah Brandt Beats Three: Brandt uses her speed and skill to beat not one, but two defensemen, plus a back-checking forward. Then she finishes with a slick deke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hds4BQ282Rw
.) Nick Bjugstad's Seeing-Eye Snipe: Due to the precision and craftsmanship of this goal, we can forgive Bjugstad for scoring against the Wild. The NHL skills competition is calling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DAPnPMkwbM
.) T.J. Oshie Feeds David Backes Between the Legs: We double up the Minnesota flavor on this goal. Oshie with the no-look between-the-legs pass to Backes breaking in. Beauty.
.) Nick Leddy Top Shelf: Leddy shows some serious hustle in joining the rush with teammate Colin McDonald. The Eden Prairie native goes bar down on the world-class Pekka Rinne. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0dnjpH3Ddo
.) Kyle Rau Backhand: Rau’s instructions for scoring success: dangle, snipe and celly. The Gopher captain shows us how silky the backhand and toe drag can be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=205jifAae-0
.) Thomas Vanek to Zach Parise: Hard forechecking pressure can result in a costly turnover for the opposing team. Here, Vanek deflects a breakout pass and Parise picks up the loose puck for the goal.
.) Jonny Brodzinski Water-Bottle Lifter: Western Michigan leaves Brodzinski wide open in the slot on a 2-on-1. You won’t believe what happens next (yes, you will). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJdDU0gxD-w
.) Justin Crandall Tip-In: Tony Cameranesi with the one timer and a perfectly placed Crandall for the tip-in. Position and timing are everything. http://umdbulldogs.com/index.aspx?path=mhockey
.) Dani Cameranesi Captures WCHA: Cameranesi shows patience on the rush, then snaps it through to the far post for the WCHA-clinching Gophers goal.
