Each year USA Hockey works diligently to provide youth hockey coaches around the country with the most comprehensive coaching education program of any sport in the US. To ensure that the kids playing hockey benefit from this training, all coach requirements must be completed by December 31st.

With that deadline now only one week away, we would like to remind all coaches that they must fulfill the requirements listed below to continue coaching this season.

  • Attend a Coaching Education Program (CEP) clinic conducted by USA Hockey.  The final CEP clinics held in Minnesota prior to the deadline will be on December 27th and 28th in Bloomington, MN.  If you need to attend this clinic, we highly recommend you to register online to reserve a seat as soon as possible.
  • Complete the appropriate age-specific modules.  Coaches must complete the module for the age level they are coaching by midnight (EST) on December 31st.
  • Finish the online SafeSport training produced by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).  The training is comprised of short video segments that take approximately 90 minutes to complete.  The training is valid for 2 seasons. Thus, if you took the training for 2013-14, you will not need to take the training again until the 2015-16 season.

Please note that specific requirements can vary by situation such as at the Mite/8U level or in regards to Level 3 recertification. For full details, please visit USA Hockey’s CEP Rules and Requirements.

Thank you for volunteering to be a youth hockey coach this season! It would be impossible to introduce kids to this great game and develop their skills without your selfless dedication to providing kids with this opportunity.  The time and effort you put into developing your coaching skills through this education program is highly appreciated, and we truly believe it helps provide a more positive youth hockey experience for everyone involved. Thank you!
