ALL COACHES MUST COMPLETE SAFESPORT TRAINING BY DECEMBER 31ST TO CONTINUE COACHING THIS SEASON.

One of the most exciting aspects of the USA Hockey SafeSport Program is the free online training/education that is available to help our members become aware of the information necessary to help prevent abuse from occurring in our sport.

All USA Hockey registered coaches, officials, employees and volunteers are entitled to take the training at no cost. The training was produced by the United States Olympic Committee and is comprised of short video segments that take approximately 90 minutes to complete. The training does not need to be completed in one session.

The SafeSport Training video discusses each of the sections listed below in an effort to give volunteers the knowledge necessary to prevent and identify child abuse and misconduct.

  • Provide definitions for, and effects of, all forms of abuse and misconduct
  • Identify risk opportunities for child abuse
  • Address common myths about offenders
  • Outline patterns, behaviors, and methods of operation of predators
  • Identify risk opportunities for abuse and misconduct in sport
  • Identify policies, practices, and procedures to recognize, reduce, and report misconduct

SafeSport Training is valid for 2 seasons. Thus if you took the training for 2013-14, you will not need to take the training again until the 2015-16 season (at which time a shorter “refresher” course will be available).
