At Minnesota Hockey’s Annual Awards Banquet this past weekend, seven outstanding student-athletes were awarded scholarships to help them pursue their college education.  Minnesota Hockey is proud to recognize these players for their pursuit of excellence on and off the ice.

2014 Scholarship Recipients:

Wes Barrette Scholarship

Ryan Schmitz, Blaine

The Wes Barrette Scholarship is provided each season by the Metro Hockey League in honor of the legendary Junior Gold coach Wes Barrette.  Barrette played a key role in the development of the Junior Gold level and founded the team Wessy’s Boys which has been a fixture in the St. Paul area for over 20 years.

Minnesota Hockey Scholarships:

  • Scott Bohn, Minnetonka
  • Todd Impola, Wayzata
  • Zachary LaCombe, Minnetonka
  • Sydney Sanford, Maple Grove
  • Kailee Thompson, Roseville

Each year Minnesota Hockey offers scholarship awards to senior student-athletes that are properly registered and participating members of Junior Gold and Girls' 19 & Under teams. These scholarships can be used at any post high school institution and are a one-time award that will not need to be repaid.

Disabled Hockey Scholarship

Hannah Hughes, MN Wild Sled team

This was the first season in which Minnesota Hockey’s Disabled programs offered a scholarship for their members.  The scholarship award will be sent directly to the awardees program that is providing educational, personal growth and development opportunities for that individual.

Congratulations to all of the scholarship winners and we wish you the very best in your future endeavors!
