On Saturday, March 1st, over 50 community-based youth hockey associations in Minnesota will host a Try Hockey For Free event as a part of USA Hockey's Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by CCM.

Try Hockey For Free events are a great opportunity for kids that are interested but have never played hockey before, to try it at no cost. Kids, ages 4 to 12, are encouraged to come out to a local participating rink and try youth hockey. Each location provides a limited amount of equipment to use, jerseys, goodie bags and a variety of fun games.

Are your kids already playing hockey? This is your opportunity to help your association grow and build a stronger foundation for the future. After all, over 20% of Try Hockey For Free participants (almost 400 kids) in Minnesota this fall heard about the event through word of mouth, making it the second most effective form of communication behind flyers.

In addition to Try Hockey Day on Saturday, there will be special theme days on Friday and Sunday as a part of Hockey Weekend Across America.  Friday is “Wear Your Favorite Jersey Day” where fans are encouraged to show off their hockey pride and excitement by sporting their lucky jersey all day long. On Sunday, associations have a chance to give recognition to those that make a significant impact on their association's success on “Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes” day.

There will also be a “Great Day for Hockey” Sweepstakes presented by CCM in which fans 13 years and older have a chance to win a variety of prizes.  Three grand prize packages of skates, stick, helment/facemask and gloves will be given away.
