Congratulations to Bill Aagaard of Pine City Youth Hockey (PCYH)! Bill has been selected as the Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month in honor of his tireless efforts in support of hockey in the communities of Pine City and Rush City.

Bill is a great example of one of those volunteers that always seems to be at the rink.  Aagaard serves a major role on the PCYH Board as their Banquet and Concessions Coordinator as well as coaching a Mite and an 8U team for PCYH.  He has also gained a reputation for being willing and able to fill in for coaches on other teams when they are shorthanded at practice.

“Whether it’s during tryouts or during the regular season, Mr. Aagaard is on the ice, in the locker rooms and wherever else he might be needed to make the youth hockey experience an enjoyable one for as many kids as possible,” said Paul Kirby, who coaches with Aagaard. “You can always find Bill setting the example for others to follow.”

In addition to his efforts with PCYH, Aagaard has played a pivotal role on the Rush City Park Board in establishing an outdoor rink in that community. Each season he continues to ensure the kids in Rush City have a place to play by volunteering to install and maintain the ice.

As a further indication of his passion for the game, Aagaard also maintains an outdoor rink of his own in their backyard, where he has been known to host countless skating parties and sleepovers.

“He truly enjoys seeing the fruits of his labor pay off on the smiles of the kids that hit the ice with him,” said Kirby, who also serves on the PCYH board with Aagaard. “His attention to detail and giving spirit have helped grow hockey in our small community.  He has made me a better coach, player, parent and friend.”

Thank you, Bill (and Paul), for all of your dedication to hockey in the Pine City area!  Minnesota’s community based model is successful because of people like you that provide kids everywhere the chance to play hockey.

Do you know someone that should be considered for the Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month award?  If so, nominate him or her now!  One volunteer will be featured each month.  That volunteer will also receive a $50 Total Hockey gift card.  In addition, five sets of starter hockey gear will be contributed in his/her name to their association, courtesy of Total Hockey.
