Women’s Frozen Four Coming to Minnesota

The 2013 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four will be hosted at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, MN on March 22 and 24.  The semifinals will be played back-to-back starting at 6 pm on Friday, March 22.  The championship game will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, March 24. 

All eyes are sure to be on the home team, University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.  Can they complete the first ever undefeated season in Women’s College Hockey by winning the National Championship on home ice?  University of Minnesota Duluth is the only university that has won a NCAA Women’s DI Championship as the host, although they accomplished it twice (2003 & 2008).

In addition to the Frozen Four, Minneapolis will also be hosting several other events related to girls’/women’s hockey over the course of the weekend. 

Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award

An award of The USA Hockey Foundation, the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is annually bestowed upon the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey. The award will be presented at a brunch ceremony on Saturday, March 23 at the McNamara Alumni Center on the University of Minnesota campus. For ticket information, visit www.pattykaz.com.

Try Hockey Clinics

As the Women’s College Hockey season comes to its climax with the National Championship, USA Hockey and the NCAA are teaming up with local associations to introduce more girls and women to hockey. 

On Sunday, March 24, Parade Ice Garden in Minneapolis will host a Women’s Try Hockey Clinic from 9:30 -10:30 am and a Girls’ Try Hockey Clinic from 10:45 – 11:45 am. Both clinics are free. Equipment will be provided (helmet, stick and jersey only for Women's clinic). They are primarily designed for girls and women who have never played ice hockey before. The Girls’ Try Hockey Clinic is open to girls ages 6-10.

USA Coaching Symposium

USA Hockey will be conducting a Girls’/Women’s Coaching Symposium on Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24 at the Common's Hotel in Minneapolis.  The clinic will be specialized for coaches of female players 12U and up. 

Topics will include team building, motivation, nutrition, strength and conditioning, skill development and much more.  Three of the ten scheduled speakers will be National Team Goalie Coach Robb Stauber, Technical Director of ADM, Ken Martel and Assoc. Director at the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport, Nicole LaVoi.

All coaches in attendance will receive CEP credit one level higher than their current certification up to Level 4.  Reserve your seat now with the $150 entry fee that includes a ticket to all three NCAA Division I Women’s Frozen Four games.
