The Official Site Of Minnesota Hockey!
Minnesota Hockey is the statewide governing body of amateur hockey in Minnesota and an affiliate of USA Hockey. Since 1947 Minnesota Hockey (formerly known as the Minnesota Amateur Hockey Association) has been providing volunteer services for the development and promotion of all youth hockey in Minnesota. The Minnesota Hockey directors will work hard to keep this website up to date and full of exicting content!
Despite his role as commissioner, Tom Slaird is a realist. He is fully aware that many parents don’t want their kids participating in his hockey league – the Metro League.
Welcome to the Minnesota Hockey Recruitment and Retention Section. This area of the website will be dedicated to providing associations with news, stories and tips about how to successfully recruit and retain hockey players in your area. CLICK HERE to visit the full section.
Minnesota Hockey Journal is an official publication of Minnesota Hockey and is mailed to all Minnesota Hockey members four times each season in October, December, February and March.
Hanover, Minnesota – Minnesota has two seasons, an old joke goes: Winter and …Construction!
The outdoor game between the North Wright County River Hawks and the Crow River Tigers honors both. It was a wintry mix of cold and shivers AND the perspiration and hard work of 10-year old girls who love the game of hockey.
The game was billed as “Cold Toes, Warm Hearts”, but is better known by the parents who support their girls as “Old Time Hockey”. That’s because in Minnesota, their parents and their grandparents grew up playing outdoors and this event celebrates our culture and our Northernness. As you won’t see this kind of event many places. In much of the USA, hockey doesn't matter. Here, where mothers lace their kids' skates in the dark at dawn and dads stand outside flooding rinks on chilly winter mornings…little matters more.
The mere thought of playing a real hockey game outside in the elements of suburban Minneapolis on the second day of the New Year shakes a person from their comfort zone. Brrrrr!
Saturday, January 2nd the River Hawks hit the ice at Hanover Community Park taking on the Tigers in one of the most exciting games of their young careers.
Our local food shelves have been stretched thin over the holiday season and needed some restocking. And since hockey folks are notoriously generous, this event provided a great opportunity to help out – that’s where the “Warm Hearts” comes in.
